The purpose of this course is to expose students to the regular education English curriculum, to address common core standards, and to work towards IEP goals.
Course Objectives:
1.) To achieve writing proficiency with regard to narratives, persuasive essays, summaries, research papers, and functional pieces
2.) To increase proficiency in reading comprehension
3.) To work with and attain proficiency with state standards with regard to reading, writing, speaking , and listening.
Expectations
1.) Arrive to class on time
2.) Start class with all necessary materials. A 3 ring binder, to be used ONLY for this class, is required
3.) Complete homework and assignments in accordance with due dates and agreed upon timelines
Course Content
Our class follows the general education English curriculum at a pace that is appropriate for student learning and achievement. This year, we will read works of nonfiction, poems, short stories, novels, and articles. We will also write several essays and a research paper
Assessments
Assessments are necessary to monitor student progress. Study guides will be provided prior to all assessments, and all eligible content will be available. Grades will be updated in PowerSchool on at least a weekly basis. If an assignments is late, it will be marked with a zero/Late code. Upon the submission of the assignment, the grade will be adjusted.
Homework and Assignments
Students have homework nearly every night. Students are expected to turn in assignments on time. Use of an agenda planner will help you and your child to be able to keep up with due dates and assignments. Points will be deducted from late and/or missing assignments. Please also refer to PowerSchool with regard to upcoming assessments and current grades. Grading for homework, assessments, and projects will reflect the Peters Township High School Grading Policy (unless otherwise indicated in the IEP)
